Letter: Praise Flanagan, staff and students
Bravo for Flanagan High School and its staff and students.
They set a fine example recently showing a tape teaching tolerance toward someone who is different, in this case gay.

The students demonstrated the self-control being taught by not giving protesters the response they had hoped for.

Shame on the protesters, a group from Kansas who felt it their duty to fly to Florida with a message of hate.

Holding up signs that read "God hates fags," they were met by Richard Cortez. His response was to raise his arms with peace signs. Sixteen years old is a time when he should be growing and learning, not living in ridicule and fear for being different. The Bible I read is about love, forgiveness and redemption, not about hate, bias and condemnation.

The USA was founded on the fact that all men are created equal. That does not mean that all men are created the same. We are all different in many ways. Isn't it time for us to learn to love each other and our differences? We like to tell the rest of the world right from wrong. Let's show the rest of the world.
