Prominent Aussies publish support for Kirby

Former New South Wales Liberal premier Nick Greiner has joined 34 other prominent Australians in signing a letter of support for High Court judge Michael Kirby.

The letter, published in this morning's Sydney Morning Herald, expresses confidence in Justice Kirby, describing him as a person of the highest moral character and integrity.

Former federal Liberal minister Jim Carlton, and former human rights commissioner Chris Sidoti, have also signed the open letter, saying they are deeply angered by the attack on Justice Kirby.

Meanwhile, New South Wales police say they are still to receive documents from Senator Bill Heffernan to support his calls for a new investigation into Justice Kirby.

Senator Heffernan told Parliament last week that Justice Kirby was not fit to hear child abuse cases.

Justice Kirby has denied the allegations against him.
