Sydney solicitor JOHN MARSDEN has revealed he had electric
shock therapy for his homosexuality in the 1960s. Mr MARSDEN has told the Nine Network he tried the treatment because he wanted to do something about being gay. But he says he now says being gay is not a condition that can be treated. Mr MARSDEN says he had aversion therapy after going to a psychiatrist because he thought his sexuality could be changed. He says the therapy included electric shock treatment. Mr MARSDEN says he did not ask to be gay, saying he has no control over his sexuality. He says there have been gay men and women since Adam and Eve and he says gay people have to stand up and be equal. Mr MARSDEN was awarded damages of more than $500,000 by Justice DAVID LEVINE in the NSW Supreme Court last week, after he was defamed by two television programs aired by the Seven Network in 1995 and 1996. The programs alleged Mr MARSDEN had sex with under-age boys. |
