We are a lesbian couple, with a 10 year old daughter, who have run groups for children in the past. We have discovered that the children are hungry for information about other children in similar families. We have also talked to many lesbian parents over the years and found they want to know how children cope, what to do in the order to prevents issues arising or how best to deal with problems if they do arise.
Because of our interest and the need in this area we have embarked on a project to:
1. Run support groups for children in order to enable them to discuss these issues.
2. Produce
a resource for children and their parents about potential situations and how
both children and adults have dealt with
them.
We have run one off groups for children in the past and plan to hold a series of short term support groups in the near future. Children who have participated in the groups have expressed a desire to continue to meet together in order to swap stories, discuss issues and share ideas and successes. We believe the experiences and success stories spoken of in the groups will be a valuable resource to other children and their lesbian and gay parents.
In addition we have designed a questionnaire in order to ensure the resource we develop tackles issues of concern to lesbian and gay parents and to incorporate the wisdom that we are all developing about how best to deal with issues both before and after they arise.

Notes About the Researchers
Viv & Robin have been parents for 10 years now. Viv began the Lesbian Parents Groups in Melbourne many years ago. Both women have been involved in organising Lesbian Parents Conferences in Melbourne. Viv is a visiting teacher who supports children from kindergarten through to VCE and Robin is a counsellor, who has worked with women's services for many years.
